Grady Harrell - Belinda

Back

This is from the album, Mwana, released in 1984. Grady Harrell, a native of Los Angeles, almost became a member of Shalamar in the late 70s, but was recommended by Jeffrey Daniel to pursue a solo career. Harrell released three albums: Mwana in 1984, which was produced by Fred Wesley, of the JB's (James Brown's band) that had the single 'Belinda', Come Play With Me, released in 1989 that made the singles, 'Fun' and 'Sticks and Stones'. Harrell's next album, Romance Me, in 1990 had the minor hits, 'Your Kiss','Don't Turn Your Back On Me' and 'Patience'. Harrell had a voice whose resembled that of Sam Cooke with had the hairstyle that resembles that of Jackie Wilson, and showed a lot of great dance moves, as seen in his videos. Even with his potentially good talents, Harrell had minimal commercial success, and had been overshadowed during the late 80s and early 90s by New Jack Swing R&B music. Harrell resurfaced in 2004 when he recorded the song, 'Joy'.
