No podía aceptar que su relatividad general no fuera compatible con la mecánica cuántica. El sueño que persiguió durante sus últimos 30 años fue encontrar una teoría que fuera válida tanto para el mundo que vemos, el macroscópico, como para el mundo atómico. Una teoría unificadora, la "teoría del todo". No lo consiguió. Pero ahora tenemos una candidata, la teoría de las supercuerdas. Debatiremos la posibilidad de la existencia de más universos, de más dimensiones, y del principio antrópico. La segunda parte del programa es un reportaje especial grabado en el Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos en la isla de la Palma. Uno de los más avanzados del mundo.
